House Arach Security

Cryptosystems

  • Admittance by invitation ONLY
  • The Checkpoint Tower
    • blocks the path, straddled over a portcullis that’s shut by default
    • has guards (not sure how many or how armed)
    • portcullis has a fortified door, but locks are on the inside
    • small altar near portcullis with a large shard (aka the check-in kiosk, and what you can safely assume is the ‘gate’ shardnet)
    • six soldiers armed with crossbows
    • gate shardnet is just 2 shards
  • The Gate Shardnet
    • has 3 different entry protocols – Arach family, servants/reatiners, & visitors
    • Family
      • Arachs touch shard, encrypt with the admin’s true name & a passphrase that only the Arachs and admin know.
      • On success, the admin contacts the garrison over the garrison shardnet and tells them an Arach is there and to admit
      • Servants & Retainers
        • Each servant has a unique passphrase (you have one)
      • Visitors
        • Visitors are thrown down a sealed scroll from a guard in the tower containing a temp keyphrase
        • They use that keyphrase to announce themselves to the cryptoadmin
        • Admin checks if an invitation has been approved
        • OR visitors can bring a physical invitation with the wax seal of the Arachs
        • Once admitted, the visitors are taken along a path up the mountain (approx 20 min)
  • The Gatehouse
    • Larger and more fortified than the checkpoint.
    • Guards ask the nature of your visit.
    • Subject to random and invasive searches (including for undeclared shards)

Mundane Security

  • Uric Arach
    • Chief of security and interrogator
    • feared
    • can interview subjects at random
    • uses Mind Read
    • will overlook certain trespasses in exchange for personal favors at the expense of his rivals
      *Decorative Sashes
    • for everyone but the Arachs
    • indicated their given station, each with their own privileges
    • handed out at the Gatehouse
    • One for servants, guards, retainers, and visitors:
    • Visitor sashes
      • one must be escorted by someone else with a diff stash at all times
      • not permitted into secure areas
      • gold
    • Servant sashes
      • scarlet
      • assume they are unique to the area of service
    • Guard sashes
      • blue
      • obviously allowed access to some secure areas
    • Trusted retainer sashes
      • ???
    • You safely assume anyone without a sash would be detained by guards
    • You must be dressed like and exhibit behaviors indicative of your sash
  • The Castle
    • Doors are rarely left ajar
    • Exterior windows have iron bars on the first three floors, wooden shutters above that
    • Dining hall, great hall, guest quarters
  • Arachs keep protected diaries
  • The Ancestral Tomb
    • In the catacombs, plagued with Maze spells
  • The Catacombs
